Machine Embroidery at Mackay
I travelled to Mackay, Central Queensland and worked with a group of Machine Embroiderers who were enthusiastically creating a three dimensional flower. We laughed and sewed all day. Quite a few of the participants drove long distances to be part of the day’s activities. So much so, that I did not get a photo of the group.
However, the next day was quite different. Carlie, the niece of my host came to the house. We had a one on one lesson with embroidery software. The exercise culminated in a piece of machine embroidery, designed and stitched exclusively by herself. The finished piece will be attached as a lined pocket to her beach bag, which she is in the process of creating. This will be one school project with a difference.
Carlie took to the embroidery software easily, and was thrilled to see the quality of the work. Already, she has other ideas for embroidery. I can see niece and aunt negotiating time at the embroidery machine in the future..
