2014 Quilters Getaway
Norfolk Island provided the perfect, picturesque back drop for a week of quilting and making new friends. The Quilt Norfolk team juggled their day jobs, called in favours from family and friends to make the Quilters Getaway a success. Five tutors worked in four amazing venues dotted across the island, and skilfully guided participants through varied sewing techniques.
Participants and tutors contributed to the Norfolk Island Quilt exhibition which was held on the Wednesday. Locals and tourists alike viewed the display and marvelled at the creative talents of the participants. The second Annual pincushion competition drew a huge interest. Participants came from New Zealand, and all states in Australia. North Queensland was well represented with a large contingent from Charters Towers, the Townsville Area, and Cairns.
The Quilt Norfolk team met visitors at the airport and friendships were made at the Welcome Dinner. Getaway participants were Guests of Honour at a special reception at the Governors Lodge on the Tuesday evening.
The Farewell Dinner offered the opportunity for new friends to mingle; and showcase achievements and reflect on a fabulous week of sewing. As we all departed, plans are well afoot for next year’s getaway. The image is the stained glass Rose Window in St Barnabas Church, Norfolk Island.
